I own more books than clothes and shoes combined, and adore books in the paper and digital form alike. So when I discovered Skoobs Theatre of Books in Montecasino I almost went into coronary arrest. This concept bookstore not only appeals to the readers, but gamers and if you would believe, coffee and champagne lovers alike.
The first floor holds a feast of fiction, biographies, and classics. The cosy seating area with glossy tomes dedicated to music and art is the perfect place to while away the hours. Alternatively, cross over to the coffee shop section, grab yourself a latte from Coffee Republic, and make use of the free Wi-Fi in the shadow of dozens of paper cranes. Simply charming.
Upstairs boasts shelves and shelves of books on science, philosophy, religion and even an outside "garden" style patio surrounded by cookery books. Then there's the famous champagne bar, where you can unwind with a glass of bubbly while a pianist tinkles at the keys. For gamers, there's a whole room with wall-to-wall games for Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and more, plus screens to try out the latest releases.
Skoobs also holds regular events, including hosting John van de Ruit when he launched his latest book in the famous Spud series. And if all this isn't enough to entice you, Skoobs is open seven days a week, from 10am to 11pm on Sundays to Thursdays, and from 10am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
