Bryanston Organic Market
This old faithful of a market never lets you leave without a full tummy and arms full of organic and different purchases
If you have a touch of the hippie or the eco-bunny in you, or even if you're just looking for that perfect Christmas gift that's a little different, Bryanston Organic Market is the place for you.
This is not some tacky fleamarket. It sells only fabulous items (some of them with fabulous prices to match!) and is extremely well organised. There are so many intriguing stalls, it would be easy to get lost, but this is one market that is well sign-posted.
Touted as Johannesburg's original outdoor market, having opened 35 years ago, the leafy walkways are wide enough to encourage browsing even when it's busy, as it was just 30 minutes after opening on the day I popped in - the car guard took one look at my little car and conned me into squeezing her into the most ridiculous non-parking due to the crowds!
This market is all about quality handmade products, unique art, natural clothing and organic produce. You can stock up on fresh veggies, yummy cheeses and the most delicious looking baked goodies for your festive table. And of course there's a gift for everyone, even the most difficult person in your family.
Bryanston Organic Market is open every Thursday and Saturday from 9am-3pm, and to meet your shopping needs, they hold Moonlight Markets from mid-November until Christmas, taking place on Tuesdays from 5pm-9pm. The last one for 2011 is on 20 December so make sure you don't miss out!
The market is situated in Culross Road, Bryanston (off Main Road), Johannesburg.
