Sunset Views And Bungee At The Skybar

Sunset Views And Bungee At The Skybar
Calling the fearless and the bold, the adrenaline junkies and adventurous types! There is a new venue that you will love that has opened in Fourways.

The Bungee Skybar is a steel facility built at a cost of R10 million by the same people who run the Orlando Towers bungee in Soweto and who are building a 470 metre bungee in Cullinan near Pretoria. The Skybar is situated straight across from Montecasino.

You can bungee jump, abseil, climb or just chill out on the viewing deck or relax with a drink at the small bar deck at the top. When you bungee jump you can have a GoPro camera strapped to your head so that you can review all the video footage associated with your jump. The bungee platform is situated 50 metres above the group and is not for those who can't handle heights. I have bungee jumped off the Bloukrans bridge bungee in the Western Cape, which at the time was the world's highest commercial bridge bungee at 219 metres above the Bloukrans river ravine. However, heights still get to me and when I went up in the lift cage to the top the height filled me with fear and my legs felt like jelly - so don't underestimate the effect the height can have on you.

Once at the top you enjoy stunning and beautiful views, especially at sunset. You can see the cooling towers of the Kelvin power station near OR Tambo International Airport in the east, Roodepoort and beyond in the west, the Northcliff water tower at the top of the Northcliff hill to the south and the Magaliesberg to the north. An important aspect to note is that it gets quite windy when you are sitting at the 'sky bar' so make sure you bring along warm clothing, especially at night when the temperatures drop sharply.

The bar at the top has a small selection of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks but no food. Back on the ground there is also an Adrenaline Cafe, about 50 metres away from the main facility that you can visit.

From Friday through to Sundays, the Skybar has a great vibe with pumping music playing at the bottom for those who want to watch the bungee jumpers come flying, shouting and screaming off the top.

This venue is definitely worth visiting whether you want to bungee jump or do any of the other activities on offer or just sip a drink at the top and soak up the breathtaking views.
