On both Thursday and Friday nights last week, feeling tired of the usual Joburg drinking holes, I ended up drinking at The Office, a new place next-door to Gin in Greenside. The Office is the latest hotspot opened by restaurateurs, Tom Hughes and Martin Jakoby who are also responsible for the The Loft and The Attic. And it certainly lives up to the brand. It's trendy, hip, upmarket and serves great cocktails and of course, great food. It's a singleton's version of heaven with flattering lighting, lots of hot men and women and lots of alcohol. Needless to say, it has been referred to as the new meat market for Joburg trendoids.
I like it. The food is good and not too pricey. We tried mixed tapas which were yummy and perfect when you have been downing cocktails since 5pm and need something a little greasy to soak up the alcohol. The bartenders are friendly and efficient (although, fighting your way to the bar can be a bit trying). Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights get totally packed out and the place is noisy so don't go expecting a nice, quiet drink unless you head there mid-week.
