Have Your Cake And Eat It At Contessa Tea

Have Your Cake And Eat It At Contessa Tea

There's no need for the wine list when this little tea shop has a tea menu longer than it's food one, and cake to die for too

Attention all tea lovers! Tucked away behind busy Rivonia, lies a true little gem.  It's a perfect getaway from all the hustle and bustle of Joburg . A great place to sit down and unwind with a great cuppa or two and a slice of cake.

Contessa tea shop is a great breakfast/ brunch/ lunch spot where you can catch up with friends or even conduct business meetings. As you walk in you instantly feel welcomed and at home. The walls are cleverly decorated with different shaped picture frames and there are bookshelves filled with homely things. Its' like a home away from home.

Now back to the important stuff; their food, cakes and teas! There are two menus to choose from; the food and cake menu (which has some delectable fare on it) as well as an extensive tea menu. It took me a good 20 minutes to decide on what to eat. Would it be food? Cake? Or both? And I truly wasn't disappointed.

The portions are also very generous so go there with a healthy appetite (the diet can wait) and then the choice of cakes is another story. There are choices such as pineapple cake, coconut chocolate cake and I could go on and on.  There is also an extensive collection of teas. Most of us only know about Five Roses and Rooibos but there you can also choose to go with the 'tea tastings which they offer. A very novel idea and something nice to do with a group of friends.

So next time you go wandering along Rivonia why not pop into Contessa Tea Shop and treat yourself to some tea and cake?
