Markets are beginning to seem like quintessential elements of the Joburg experience. Jozi-philes like me love them. There's something about the mix of phenomenal food, beautiful people and the opportunity to discover another corner of the city - all of which were present at Collective's Supper Club on Saturday.
Collective has, since December, been popping up monthly on the rooftop of 3 Desmond Street, Kramerville, bringing us quirky and eccentric creations. To make the most of the awe-inspiring venue, we'll now be treated to evening editions with a change of focus, from design and shopping to food and drink.
For those of us who feel rather overwhelmed by the prospect of hours spent in a sweaty club, building up the courage to twerk and hopefully get lucky, The Supper Club is a great addition to the Saturday night lineup.
Last Saturday, we arrived while it was still light out, providing us a panoramic view of Joburg. Hours later, stuffed with raclette, brie, mussels, burgers and cupcakes, we stumbled home happy and singing the praises of Collective organizer Catherine Ohlson de Fine.
Although the menu was limited, there was an emphasis on quality and interesting delicacies, the liquor was fast flowing and the company good. This is one market not to be missed by my fellow Jozi-philes and connoisseurs of great food.
