Café Bruege's Belgian Waffles, Please
Grab your Granny and head to 'Cafe Bruegel in Edenvale, an authentic Belgian waffle heaven.
Cafe Bruegel is a lovely, quiet and cosy place to have morning or afternoon tea with your Gran or Mom or a friend or two. It is very popular with the locals, especially Saturdays at lunchtime when they have live music as entertainment while you savour the tastes of Belgium.
The decor inside is nothing to look at but the waffles are an eye opener. They arrive on a massive plate, thick, crispy and yummy, covered in a sweet or savoury topping or two of your choice. These waffles are enough to satisfy any hungry customer. But don't despair the menu does offer other Belgian traditional fare, and one can even purchase a few delicacies to take home.
But what impressed me (apart from the waffles) were the very unusual place mats they use. They almost look like a poster of a famous painting one could frame and place over the mantelpiece. Its touches like these that make me feel like I have found a gem of a place.
