It's been staring me in the face for a while now, with its warm glows and inviting smiles. Beans About Coffee in Greenstone ticks all the cute café boxes and I finally step inside. All the coffee-related paraphernalia gives it a cosy feeling and, of course, the aroma is caffeinated heaven. This will do for a quick pre-shopping lunch, a post-shopping pick-me-up or both.
Our waiter turns out to be a badass barista. He pours my cappuccino at the table and starts turning it into art. He's done before the cup gets cold so there's plenty of time for a few Instagram snaps. Nice trick for a nice tip. It tastes like art, too.
The menu includes the usual assortment of tramezzinis, bagels and panini sandwiches, and the prices are decent. Broke students could fork out R15 for a toasted cheese sandwich or go big with a bagel for R45. I can't think of anywhere else in the area where bagels are served. Welcome to 2015.
Being the trendy, young and newish part of the east, new establishments are constantly popping up in Greenstone and, of course, these places are packed when they first open. Beans About Coffee is now at the point where it gets only tolerably full - which is, like, empty if you're from Parkhurst or Sandton.
Go for the warm glow, the croissants and the fancy barista.
