LUSH Festival returns to Clarens over the Easter Weekend from 18 to 20 April and this year the festival welcomes a brand new home. Noah’s Cheese on the farm Node, located just outside of Clarens, is the spacious new location for LUSH Festival.

This year’s festival will feature international acts Wheatus, Youngr, Kim Churchill, and Juzzie Smith, as well as local legends Spoegwolf, Jeremy Loops, Goodluck, Jo Black, TiMO ODV, PHFAT, Shortstraw, Refentse, Desmond & The Tutus, The World Of Birds, Hellcats, Cockles., Tazers, and Gunshot Blue to name a few.

Ahead of the festival, we spoke with UK-based percussionist, songwriter, and producer Youngr about his history with music, what he’s hoping to do on his first trip to South Africa, and what we can expect from his show at LUSH.

You’ve toured all over the world. What’s been your most memorable experience of performing abroad so far?

Probably my time in India. It's a crazy, hectic, wonderful place. You'd never quite know what the shows would be like, if the equipment would turn up, or even if it would turn on! But they were always a shit load of fun.

What are you most looking forward to during your tour to South Africa?

Well, i don't know much about SA... so just having a good snoop around! Currently watching Blue Planet on BBC iPlayer and David Attenborough is talking about some surfing Dolphins on the coasts of SA... So maybe I'll go hang out with those guys. They sound fun!

What’s your earliest memory of music and when did you know it was something you had to do?

When I was 7 or 8 I used to HATE going to my piano lessons... then I got to age 11 and discovered the drums and just remember thinking... "yeah, this is my jam!"

What are the makings of an incredible live show for you?

Dancing, smiling, a touch of nakedness and lots of sweating.

Lastly, what can we expect from your performance at LUSH?

Exactly what I wrote above. LOL

LUSH Festival takes place at Noah's Cheese Farm in Clarens this 19-20 April. Check out the full line-up and all the details over here.
