The Animal Race hits Joburg
Fun race for animal shelters
Posted: Oct 24 2010
Hundreds of animals enter shelters on a daily basis and never leave. Often it is because they are abused or simply neglected. Many welfare organizations around the country strive to better the lives of these animals, but finding them a place to call home is no easy task. For every animal placed in a shelter, funding is needed.
A new fundraising initiative, called The Animal Race has just been launched and the event will take place on 6 November. If you are an avid fan of the television series 'The Amazing Race', this is your chance to make a difference. The Animal race will follow a similar format to the series, where teams will travel around to various locations searching for clues, except you will be raising money for our super awesome cuddly friends.
Contestants can enter individually or in a team (min of 2 to max of 5 people). A participation fee of between R50 to R90, depending on the amount of team members, is required and all proceeds will be donated to the welfares involved. Marshalls will be stationed at all points of the race, where they will log in each team's arrival as well as provide clues. Teams will be required to carry a timer to indicate the length of time taken to complete the race. The team who completes the race in the shortest time period will receive a hamper valued at R500.
The event will start and end at Walkhaven Dog Park in Muldersdrift at 10:00am. Registration on the day takes place between 07:30 and 09:00 am, but due to limited space it is suggested you pre-register at www.theanimalrace.co.za, pre-registration closes 1 November.
