New events venue to open in iconic Ponte building
5101 will cater to exhibitions, book-launches, sundowners and more

Jozi’s most iconic building will soon become home to a brand-new venue that hopes to invite people to experience the city through a truly unique experience.
Called 5101 (fifty-one-oh-one) the venue is a project by inner-city tours organisation Dlala Nje and will function as a for-hire events venue, catering to exhibitions, book-launches, sundowners, dinner parties and more.
Dlala Nje CEO Michal Luptak explains that one of the goals for the venue is to immerse patrons in the glory days of the famous Ponte apartments.
“ used to be my co-founder's (Nickolaus Bauer) apartment when we moved into Ponte back in 2012,” says Luptak. “We used to host our tours through our own homes five years ago. Later Nick moved out and we got permission to use 5101 exclusively for tours. This happened about two years ago. Since then we have a vision of re-creating the triple storey penthouse apartments as they were in the 70's. 5101 is the first step toward this direction.”
5101 is set to launch in early December 2017 with bookings being essential.
And what can we expect from the venue once it’s in full swing? “A transformative experience that brings together the honesty of our complex and transitioning city,” says Luptak.
