The Brother Moves On at The Orbi

The Brother Moves On at The Orbi

In 2016 the Total Refreshment curated an event by Lexus Blondin where the Brother Moves On pay homage to independent bands from South Africa that made the journey from the Southern tip of Africa to London and were well received in the UK but never saw the same fame come from South Africa. As the last gig in London on their Oorkant tour which saw the band/collective play Marseille, Berlin, Augsburg, Paris, London, Bristol, Deal, Nottingham, Sheffield, Manchester and Leeds the band paid homage to Batsumi + Malombo the grand daddies of indie township astro afro free jazz.

On the 11th of October the band will attempt to capture this highlight of their tour at home paying homage this time to Batsumi’s songbook. The first set will honour curator Lexus Blondin’s Church of Sound by paying homage to the Batsumi songbook and the second set will be of the Brother Moves On originals. The set will feature the amazing vocality of Itai Hakim and on flute and Alto-sax the untouchable and down to earth Mthunzi Mvubu.
