Not Yet Free

Not Yet Free

Not Yet Free! is a collaborative art exhibition presenting paintings, poetry, film screening and music performance by various South African musicians including the legendary Dorothy Masuka and a special performance by Jessica “Anjelica” Vox from the United States of America. The project is inspired by and designed to promote awareness of global injustices such as extreme poverty, racism, and the need for basic humanitarian rights.

Across global communities - we are “Not Yet Free”. This series of events and engagements is aimed at exploring the history of the freedom movement that led to the end of Apartheid in 1994 - while questioning the current state of Freedom in both the new South Africa and the world at large. Our prime objective is to revive and enhance the dynamic and social cultural environment, through multifunctional and innovative activations, that utilize multimedia, to navigate through various issues that our communities are confronted with, through art. Also through this show we aim to revive Arts and Culture into a broader Aspect of society. Launched for the first time in 2016, the NYF project is positioned to become an ongoing interactive Arts program aiming at challenging issues from social inequalities and imbalances to diverse forms of freedom of expression to name just a few.

On the 14th of May 2016 top local and international acts will engage in a global conversation about freedom, through music.

Line-up: Jessica "Anjelica" Vox, Dorothy Masuka, Thandiswa Mazwai, Junior Sukhela and Boom Shaka, BLK JKS, Martin Machapa, The Brother Moves On and DJ Romz Deluxe.

Twenty two years into democracy and we are not yet free but there is still the music.
