Trentino's: a little Italian

Tucked just off Jan Smuts Avenue on Buckingham, Trentino's is easy to find and offers very reasonably priced choices for any Italian food lover who's looking for something fresh.

The venue offers a relaxed no-fuss interior combining face brick and soft lighting to give a warm, comfortable feel and there's a view through to the food preparation area where meals are conjured up with careful consideration.

There is both a set menu of starters, salads, pizza and pastas as well as a huge range of specials that change fortnightly. The restaurant offers a range of different but mouth watering choices as well as some of the more classic meat, chicken or fish options. Vegetarians will also find themselves well accommodated and there's even a vegan pizza option. It's been a while since I had to ponder my choices for so long, reluctantly sacrificing one amazing-sounding meal for another.

For starters a deliciously rich black mushroom florentine prepared with spinach, crumbled gorgonzola and a parmigiano sauce together with a haloumi salad drizzled with honey and a sprinkling of nuts. Both made for a rather satisfying light meal in themselves but you won't want to stop there.

Our mains comprised of a sole bonne femme  which was baked in a wood oven with mashed potato, mushroom and grapes and a pizza made up of half the vegan option and half the melanzane al zinga option. The sole with mashed potato proved to be very filling with comforting subtle flavours and a hint of sweetness from the cooked grapes while what the vegan pizza lacks in cheese, it more than makes up for with both toppings and taste.

To finish a wonderful meal served with friendly and attentive service, we tried the hot strawberries and ice cream which made for a tasty end to a great dining experience.

Trentino's offers a range of choices and quality food that will have you planning your next visit before you've left. The venue makes its own pastas and grows many of its herbs. Weekend nights play host to live music.
