Wolves
Wolves is a new (ish) coffee shop/bar on the corner of Corlett and Oxford roads, Illovo (also home to the infamous Roseboys). It was opened by Shane Durrant (lead singer of Desmond and the Tutus), his wife, Angie and their friend Greg Rom.
Wolves has trendy kitch-chic written all over it and is frequented by the who's who of Joburg advertising/music/film industries. The entrance is adorned with fairy lights, there are wooden tables and chairs both inside and outside (for the smokers) as well as a cool second-hand sofa and coffee table near the window. Couples seem to sit around playing scrabble and eating cupakes a lot. The coffee is excellent and yes, there is free wifi.
Occasionally, Wolves morfs into a night-time gathering spot and hosts intimate (because its not very big) music nights. You can buy drinks and get a light supper if you're hungry. And although I have not had the pleasure of trying the food yet, I hear the sandwiches are great.
Wolves is cool. I like it. But something is missing. Not quite sure what it is. Maybe the lighting is a little bright or maybe it just still feels a little new like the paint hasn't quite dried yet. But go see for yourself. It is definitely worth a visit and have a piece of homemade cake while you're there. Yum!
