Pick-me-up at Post
The food and the atmosphere stops a vrot day in its tracks!
Getting your post has never elicited more pleasure; especially because the only bill you'll have to pay will be for a simple, yet tantalising meal! Nope - you won't wake up to a flapjack breakfast and hot coffee in your mailbox, but they'll gladly serve you if you pop into the multicoloured building on Braamfontein's Juta and De Beer.
Post is the brainchild of a group of architecture wunderkinds who realised their passion for food was just as deep as their love of floor plans, textiles- and classic rock. While you enjoy your ciabatta and choice filling, you can tap your foot to the likes of Paul Simon, U2 and Mumford and Sons.
The menu boasts an array of flavours - from brie cheese, parma ham and rocket sarmies, to chickpea, feta and artichoke salads. By way of thirst quenchers, be sure to try the lemonade, which packs a mean punch - it's a bit sweet but with a side glass of ice water, you can mix the drink and get two for the price of uno.
Another sweet deal is the venue's set up. Should you be having a vrot day, a walk into the shop is bound to pick up your mood. The wide windows allow for a stream of sunlight; the white tiles offset against the pine back rests and counter tops; and wooden crates line the walls doubling up as shelves.
As cosy as it sounds, when you do go and pick up your post, do leave your PJs at home. The people are friendly but may not be as tolerant as your neighbours.
Post is located at 70 Juta Street in Braamfontein and is open from 6:30 - 16:00 Mondays to Friday, and 8:30 - 14:00 on Saturdays. You can also stalk them from home, in the comfort of your PJs, on www.post-bl.tumblr.com or on 072 248 2078.
