Classic Corner HQ
After having been hassled somewhat to check out CCHQ, a club discoveredby one of my slightly left-of-centre mates, I decided to brave aneastbound adventure along the N3. I had been given directions to make my way to Edenvale, and then head on down in the direction of Bedfordview along Edenvale Road. Edenvale! I dunno, man? Despite the fact that these are not my usual haunts, I figured I might as well check this place out as praise had come from very reliable uber-cool sources.
Holy cow!!! This place is SPECTACULAR. CCHQ is a little-known gem. As I walk in I feel like I have stepped into another time?another world really, where it's free to get into clubs and huge chandeliers hang from the ceiling alongside disco balls and strobe lights. The massive main room is filled with beautiful (and sometime rather strange) antiques, from fancydress masks and 1920's dresses hanging on the walls to antique cameras, accordions and pianos. There is a modern, slick dancefloor and two well-stocked bars, and there are two huge enigmatic doors next to the dancefloor. Behind these gigantic doors is a tiny little 'cigar' room. It's the sort of room Tony Montana would use to discuss business in private and snort copious amounts of cocaine...
The music and clientele are another story entirely. The club is virtually empty every night including Fridays and Saturdays. A few psytrance parties have been held as well as the odd cellardoor party but other than that it is pretty dead. This may be a turn-off but my theory is people need to start throwing really awesome parties at this club. I got all excited as I imagined crazy-cool electronica or Indie parties happening in this magical place. The music usually played at CCHQ is hard-techno/rave music which isn't really my cup of tea but the place itself won me over so completely that I found myself having a little boogy on the dancefloor?
CCHQ is a treat for the imagination. It has a magical feel to it that I have never felt in a club before. If you haven't already discovered this gorgeous place, seriously, it is worth the mission.
Have you been to CCHQ? If so, drop us a comment on your experience!

Classic Corner Headquarters - CCHQ
CCHQ is the most awesome club in Joburg. This is seriously one of a kind. The club is filled to the brim with antiques and the burlesque-y vibe is tons of fun. The music varies depending on the specific party but this place is worth going to just to check it out!

on 26 April 2010This club is really great. my friends and i have been going there for the past 2 years an only now have people caught on to how much of a great party CCHQ offers. One thing i can say is that the club is not always dead as our reviewer has said. We have even struggled to find parking on numerous occasions. It's the best club around!!!!!!!!!
