Inner City Revival

10/02/10

Main Street Life sees the transformation of a 1970s industrial building into a mixed-use complex with residential studios, and, eventually, retail shops; an indie cinema; a restaurant; a rooftop events venue and a boutique hotel with rooms conceptualised by some of South Africa's most celebrated artists and designers.
Plans are afoot for the tenement to also feature common areas that function as both exhibition spaces and workshops, where creatives based in the disciplines of fashion; film; design and advertising; architecture and visual art can work and collaborate in harmony.

Main Street Life forms part of the 'Maboneng Precinct', a new creative hub in the eastern borough of the CBD.

Units are available to rent and/or buy, with occupation taking place in June. Visit the website to ascertain prices.
But in order to truly experience what life will be like living there, the building has its very own media channel. A young Jozi native, one Russell Grant, is already installed in one of the furnished apartments, and is recording his daily exploits via cyberdom, including Twitter. Follow his (mis)adventures at www.mainstreetlife.tv
