JHBLive has established that the Zoo Lake, Alexandra and Orange Grove public swimming pools have not been operating on weekends - all this during peak swimming season.
A staff strike has been fingered as the reason.
Staffers - only employed during the swimming season - rely on working weekends for overtime pay.
But, according to a source, staffers have not been paid overtime since September last year, leaving them out of pocket and disgruntled.
After some investigation, it appears that the pools' managers are responsible for the staff not receiving overtime pay.
The striking staffers have acknowledged that the weekends' closure affects patrons, but they have pointed out that they operate per normal during the week and are maintaining their respective pools according to acceptable standards.
Affected patrons have indicated their wish to see the problem resolved expediently, appealing to the City Council for intervention. Patrons have also pledged unity with the striking staffers, saying they deserve to be paid for overtime rendered.
