Skyway Foundation Sencity
11/02/10
The Skyway Foundation is going to be hosting the first ever Sencity in Gauteng on March 19, 2010. Sencity is a concert that will be held for deaf and hearing people. The event is organized by a Dutch Foundation. Sencity aims to convert the passions of the music into as many senses as possible. The event will boast a Sense floor, which is a vibration dance floor, an Aroma jockey for the smell, Video Jockeys for the visuals, sign dancers who will translate the music's lyrics into sign language, taste sensations and a sense area. Skyway is organizing the event with the help of a team of deaf youth as this will give them a thorough understanding of the cultural habits of the deaf community.
Sencity is not just an event but a way in which people can take a stand against something they believe in. As the project is also related to HIV/AIDS, Skyway in conjunction with Steps for the Future, has made a short film about how the deaf community deals with the pandemic. Sencity wants people to 'Celebrate life, check it out' that is the message organizers want to spread. There will also be workshops relating to this topic.
The event will take place at Bassline in Newtown from 9pm to 3am. Tickets are available from webtickets.co.za
