Shisanyama
Cooking food on an open fire is an international phenomenon. But to braai - well, that's a uniquely South African past time, ne? And today, township butcheries have repackaged the braai and resold it as Buy n Braai, otherwise known as Shisanyama amongst township folk.
The concept is so simple I can't help wonder why it wasnt thought of earlier.
Sometime in the 1990's township butcheries literally put braai stands outside their premises and, just like that, the Shisanyama phenomenon was born. People started to meet and hang out at these spots and in no time the concept got so big that the traditional butcheries lost their place eKasi.
