Minnette Vári Parallax @ Goodman Gallery
The Goodman Gallery in Rosebank is currently displaying the latest solo exhibition from Minnette Vári entitled Parallax. The exhibition demonstrates the artist's skill across different media and includes drawings, photography and video installations. Vári's highly contemporary work draws on rich mythological and historical references and results in an array of deeply affecting imagery that serve to illustrate the theme of 'mutability' and change across the ages with particular reference to the female and how history and myth have perceived them. The work speaks further on the follies of humankind with inspiration from ecological disaster to xenophobia and more.
South African born, Minnette obtained a masters degree in Fine Arts from the University of Pretoria in 1997 and has been a solo exhibitor on numerous occasions both locally and abroad. The nature of her work, both highly charged and intellectually rigorous, puts Vári high on the list of South Africa's leading contemporary exhibitors.
The exhibition runs until 13 February at the Goodman Gallery.
