When you are in need of some comfort food, (with a bit of a kick), I have discovered a Temple Of Curry! Seriously...it's called Red Chilli Spice and it made me so happy. I could die now.
In the Colony Centre (usually synonymous with drunken brawls), Red Chilli Spice provides authentic North Indian cuisine with lots of class! Upon arrival, one is presented with poppadums and pickled onion. I had to fight my boyfriend off the pickled onion by the way...it was really good.
After devouring a brilliant lamb kebab starter, I had a prawn korma curry with piles of garlic naan and fluffy rice. All the curries are served in delightful silver bowls. Also, the food came really quickly and the service was exceptional. I had my curry mild, but it wasn't even slightly spicy - a good thing if you are afraid of the burn - but I was a little disappointed. It was remarkably fragrant though, and I tried some very hot lamb korma so everything was restored.
And now to dessert! I was channelling Miss Piggy so I ordered kulfi, ate my boyfriend's gulab jaman AND had an Irish coffee (yes, yes I know Irish coffee is not Indian but I am NOT a purist). Kulfi is this incredible frozen dessert that is flavoured with cardamom and pistachio and is served like a popsicle!
Gulab jaman put in layman's terms is deep fried balls of heaven. They were all out of vanilla ice cream so they gave us rum and raisin instead! PS, you can also have a chocolate volcano for dessert. I would've if I could've?really.
Home to a host of craft beer on tap, as well as all the usual cocktails and a rather good wine list - Red Chilli Spice is certainly worth a visit. Still need convincing? If you go there on a Tuesday, you get a free craft beer with your meal!
