Spiceburg Restaurant

Spiceburg Restaurant

I've been meaning to try Spiceburg for a while now. From the outside it looked warm and cosy and there is nothing like a good curry on a winter's night.

I was not disappointed. It was indeed warm and cosy. It has a lovely ambience, perfect for a romantic date. There is a separate smoking section that is completely glassed off from the rest of the restaurant. The food was delicious traditional Indian food. The restaurant serves both north and south Indian cuisine. South Indian food is milder and mostly vegetarian or seafood.

I started with the Nandu Rasam, a crab soup with chunks of crab meat. It was delicious! I would go back just for a bowl of that soup. My friend has grilled masala prawns which were lovely.  For mains, I had the Palak Gosht, a North Indian lamb dish in a spinach sauce. North Indian food is richer and creamier than South Indian food. My friend had the traditional North Indian lamb rogan josh. Both our main courses were delicious, rich, pungent dishes. They came with rice at no extra charge. We also ordered garlic naan, a personal favourite. I was in heaven!

The desserts were rather strange and certainly not for the unadventurous eater. The food is not expensive and is top quality. On average, it's about R90 per person for a starter and a main dish. The waiters were friendly and enthusiastic. Definitely worth a visit while the nights are still cold. You'll leave with fire in your belly and a warm heart!

Adding some Indian cuisine to Greenside's burgeoning restaurant scene is Spiceburg, and it's delicious. http://bit.ly/1VcS79m
