This Friday 13 and Saturday 14 April, JHBLive and Content Bar will be conducting a series of live-streams for select performances of Season 3 of the Centre for the Less Good Idea. Check out the performances below, and if you’d like to receive a reminder for a specific performance’s stream, fill in your details here.

DESERT – written by Lindiwe Matshikiza
Friday 13 April from 6:30pm - 8pm

Desert is directed by Mwenya Kabwe and comprises early adventures with sound, film, live performance, light, installation, projection, animation, architecture and archive. It’s a collectively imagined treatment of a script by Lindiwe Matshikiza, originally written for the stage, now landing somewhere between stage, installation and film. A story of inheritance and the magic of grief. In Loving Memory.

The piece is performed by Mncedisi Shabangu, Mele Broomes and Lindiwe Matshikiza with cinematography by Boitumelo Moroka, visual landscapes by Alexia Webster, animations and shadow play by Meghan Judge, sound design and musical compositions by João Renato, Orecchia Zúñiga with Temandrota and Naty Kaly, installation and costumes by Noluthando Lobese, assistant, set design and miniature making by Mmakhotso Lamola, lighting design by Mandla Mtshali, and stage management by Cammie Behrens.

The performance will take place at The Centre for the Less Good Idea and will be live-streamed across our Facebook, Youtube, and Periscope accounts as well as on the Centre for the Less Good Idea’s website.

PUBLIC HEARING – by Malose Malahlela
Saturday 14 April from 8pm to 10pm

Public Hearing forms part of Malose Malahlela’s contribution to The Centre for the Less Good Idea Season 3 and is a performance of memory against erasure and accountability, in which people (rather than property itself) are implicated in issues having to do with land, rent and the asymmetry in how culture is produced, consumed, and memorialised in a country such as South Africa.

Members of Committee Present: Malose Malahlela (co-founder Keleketla! Library), Rangoato Hlasane (co-founder Keleketla! Library) and Joseph Gaylard (Pro Helvetia Johannesburg, formerly Joubert Park Project co-organiser). Contributions by Eric Itzkin (Deputy Director Immovable Heritage), Nicolette Pingo (Johannesburg Development Agency) and Khwezi Gule ( curator-in-chief JAG).

The performance will take place at The Drill Hall and will be live-streamed across our Facebook, Youtube, and Periscope accounts. An interactive version of the live-stream, which allows viewers to participate in the performance itself, will be streamed on the Centre for the Less Good Idea’s website.

If you’d like to receive a reminder once the live-stream begins, just submit your details here: https://goo.gl/forms/uNFmUjdvbMYymUay2

We'll be live-streaming select performances. Tune in!
