1st JHB CBD FESTIVAL OF CHARIOTS
The FESTIVAL OF CHARIOTS is an international festival – which has taken place throughout all corners of the
globe, in over 100 countries including South Africa. Durban, Cape Town, Pretoria and Soweto have been hosts
to this unifying, colourful & dynamic festival.
For the first time, JHB CBD will host its first Festival of Chariots.
The festival is a one day festival, scheduled to take place on 10 March 2018 (10h30 – 15h00) – NEWTOWN
GARDENS. Shuttle to and from the event has been arranged from the Sci-Bono grounds.
The Festival of Chariots, or Ratha Yatra as it is traditionally known, is a ‘celebration of love which envelops the
community’ – marked by a conflation of colour, credence in chorus, energised dance and infusion of
multicultural splendour. The original festival has been held in Jagannatha Puri, India – which still remains as
the world’s largest annual mardi gra festivals
This is a free entry event, inviting one and all to experience this surreal, enthralling festival. One can expect to
experience amazing varieties of entertainment, including the legendary festival of chariot procession,
incredible soulful song, dazzling dance performances, tantalising cuisine to delight the tastes of all.
